Welcome to the St. Vincent de Paul School family! We are very excited to have you join us. You will soon find that our school works as an extension of the family as we strive to "grow in faith, knowledge and service" as stated in our mission. We proudly focus on teaching the Catholic faith and providing strong teachings in establishing Christian morals. Our students are active in the parish acting as altar servers, lectors, cantors, choir members, and gift bearers. Second grade students receive preparation for the sacraments of 1st Communion and 1st Reconciliation in their religion classes. Many religious experiences are provided to the children including monthly visits to Adoration and annual participation in Stations of the Cross. In addition to this, all school performances focus on a religious theme. This includes an All Saints performance, Christmas production, etc We strive for academic excellence as well. This can be seen first and foremost in our high test scores. In 2007, our elementary students scored 77 percentile points (27 above the national average) and our middle school students averaged 82 percentile (32 points above the national average). Unbelievable results! Over 70% of students in 7th grade qualified for the DUKE University Talent Identification Program which requires a minimum score of 95 percentile in Language or Math. Out of those that qualified, nine students chose to take either the SAT or ACT test. Of those 9, four students tested at a level that qualifies them for state recognition Many service opportunities are presented to our students throughout the year. The school community supports our local St. Vincent de Paul Society through contributions of food. We minister to the sick by making things such as placemats for hospital patients around the holidays. The parish community has adopted a sister parish in Haiti which we support by collecting toys and school supplies. Several classes develop fund raisers so that money can be collected for our sister parish as well. Students learn quickly about how blessed they are and how they can be good stewards of all that they have. St. Vincent de Paul School resides in a very transient community. Our school community becomes the extended family of it members since so many move to the area with no family nearby. The children play on local athletic teams and participate in school and parish events together. There are opportunities for parental involvement both during the school day and outside of school hours. This too, creates community. It is a community that shares in each others joys and well as their challenges. See our brochure for additional information.
