In the News - Spring 2009

* All St. Vincent de Paul 6th - 8th grade students participated in the Math League Contest in February.  The Math League is dedicated to bringing challenging mathematics to students. League specialties include math contests, books, and computer software designed to stimulate interest and confidence in mathematics for students from the 4th grade through high school. Over 1 million students participate in Math League contests each year and over 1000 schools competed in the 6th through 8th grade contests.

The school teams were made up of the top 5 scoring students in each grade level.  Mrs. Carol Brophy, Middle School Math Teacher, is proud to announce that St. Vincent de Paul has received both national and regional team and individual recognition. The states in our region are Arkansas, Delaware, and Kentucky.

The 8th grade team placed 16th Nationally and 1st in the Region.  The top 3 Regional individual honors all went to St. Vincent de Paul.

The 7th grade team placed 27th Nationally and 2nd in the Region.

The 6th grade team placed 3rd in the Region.  First place Regional individual honors went to St. Vincent de Paul.

5th grade also participated in Math League however Math League does not compare 5th grade results to other schools. Mrs. Marianne Parker, 5th grade Math Teacher, is very proud that 34 out of 37 SVdP 5th graders scored "commendable" on the Math League Contest.  According to Math League, few students will score above a 24.   SVdP had an amazing showing as Mrs. Parker reports that 19% of SVdP 5th graders scored above a 24.

Congratulations to these teachers and all 5th - 8th grade students for this fine performance!
